In 2005 when Dori Phillips received the tragic news that her husband and four youngest children were killed in an accident, all life stopped as she knew it. God had a plan to rescue her, but it required time in his presence to heal. The traumatic experience inhibited her from making a living as usual, and though there were wonderful people who donated to the funeral expenses, it wasn’t enough for basic needs. Within the first year after the accident, Dori lost her home where she raised her children, her car and was unable to salvage a state of normalcy for her remaining children.

The trauma of losing a spouse or child can put a person in such a state of fragility that they continue to lose on the other side of it. Dori experienced desperate financial struggle after the accident. The truth is, we’re not always prepared for loss of this kind and Dori desires to be an advocate for widows, widowers and orphans in their time of need. She has dreamed of starting a fund that would prevent families from continuous heartbreak after the death of loved ones in the immediate family. When tragedy hits, families should be allowed time to heal without worrying about impending financial struggles. Parents should be able to comfort their children without returning so quickly back to their jobs and practical needs should be met without worry.

Dori and the DPM team have worked hard to set up this donation based fund and launch her mission to support widows and orphans this year!

2 Cor. 1:4 He comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.
